TEST DRIVE #15 - Holodeck and Ten Forward

001: Where were you a minute ago? Well, you aren't there anymore. Instead, you're standing in a very large, dark room lined with yellow. There are doors at either end of it.

Here's where things get a little choose your own adventure-y. You could:

1: Approach a console filled with buttons, located a few feet away. Press one, and it'll let you out of the room. Travel down a long hallway and you'll be in Ten Forward, the Enterprises' entertainment lounge. Have a drink, mingle and try to figure out why you're here.

OR

2: Maybe you just muttered some vague request under your breath. Maybe you wished aloud you were somewhere else. Or for help? If you did, might be in a fire station. Muttered something about killing whoever dumped you here? Surprise - you're in a slasher movie!

Though they're confusing, these visions feel about as real as they can be. And guess what - other people can experience those fantasies with you, as if they too were really there. How ever will you escape? Or do you want to?

[OOC: Welcome to the Holodeck! If you choose this option, whatever your character chooses to say out loud will cause a virtual reality program to load and play. While your character feels as if what they're experiencing and seeing is quite real, they're purely living through the latest and best in what he Enterprise has to offer in entertainment. Make sure to detail what your character's fantasy is, so that those threading with them will know how to react.

Open til next month's test drive!]

"I tried giving the kittens a bath but they didn't like it very much - except for Fluffy but she can breath underwater - and so they teleported away and then they got into the flowerbeds so I put them in Simon's bed!" There's more waving dramatically on her end and she's inched away from the table some more.

This is clearly a much better mess.

Very quietly, the man has gotten up and is walking softly towards the two of them.

Teleporting cats? Phoenix seems to recall something to do with Alec and a teleporting kitten - or a basket of them, or something. On Keldra they have talking animals, so it's no biggie.

He keeps the man in his field of vision... at other times he might be far more wary of the adult being a danger to a child, but it's a fairly safe bet in this situation, that the little girl will probably inflict far more damage on the man than he's planning to do on her.

Apart from an enforced bath, perhaps.

"Ever seen mer-kittens?" He warms to the subject, holding her attention. "They love a bath... and the sea. You should see them, little shapeshifters, half-cat, half-tail... not like fish, but more like tiny dolphin tails. I once had a litter of 'em as a kid. They loved the surf... you know ... little surf. We didn't have massive waves in the centre of the archipelago."

These kittens would be related to the ones that Alec mentioned.

When he mentions mer-kittens her eyes go wide as saucers and her jaw drops open. "REALLY!? THEY SOUND AWESOME!!! I WANT ONE!!! DID THEY TURN INTO CATS OR INTO DOLPHINS!? COULD THEY LIVE IN FRESH WATER!?" Volume control what?

Rory now hates Phoenix with all his might. Because now he's going to have to put up with Ceilidh wanting a mer-kitten and asking for one. And her finding Phoenix and seeing if he could get her one and... yes.

It shows in his expression.

Haaaate.

"Some have spoken of conflicts that they have had in the past." Although past is the key term there. She can't really speak, having only been aboard a short time. "Their history is accessible, although they also hold by something called the Prime Directive."

There are other kinds of stress, of course — mental, emotional — and Edea is well-acquainted with those. It's only recently that things have started to go back to... well, normal, for her, relatively speaking. Nothing about being here and not at home is normal, of course, but at least she can walk down a corridor on this ship and not have someone recognize her and recoil in fear or disgust. No one here remembers her as the sorceress who almost tore the world apart. (Never mind that it wasn't even her: it was Ultimecia, but wearing her face, her body, her voice. Yet even people who know the difference tend to forget.)

Physically, though, she's as healthy as can be; the slim bones of her frame might suggest a certain fragility, but something about the way she carries herself says that's not the case. Her smile as she looks at Angharad is kind, motherly even. Compassionate without being pitying.

Edea thanks her and sits down, crossing her legs. Her gaze goes back to the stars for a moment.

"It's quite the view. I never imagined I'd ever see them so close in my life. We don't... really have ships like this where I come from." Esthar was the only country with the money and technology to fund a permanent spaceflight program, but even that was mostly for research purposes. Not... this.

"Have you been here long?" she asks, curiously.

Now people really are staring. Phoenix is highly amused though, He's fully aware that the man whose sprog this is will never hear the end of mer-kittens. Ever. Not even when hell freezes over. Which is absolutely why he mentioned them.

Phoenix is a bastard.

"They're cats who are half-shifters." He explains. "Just imagine the cutest, prettiest thing you possibly can, and that's them..." He pauses to flash a twistedly gracious smile at the man. "..with claws, and teeth like needles... oh, and venom."

He's fairly sure that venom will attract this child to an animal even more than cuteness....

Actually, Ceilidh's father will never hear about this since Rory's never met the man nor has Ceilidh. Siobhan didn't see a reason why the fathers needed to be in her children's lives. All her aunts and uncles on the other hand? Now hate Phoenix's guts. And her cousins are also of the opinion that they should have one too.

She goes speechless in amazement. This is like the PERFECT PET. PERFECT. There can be absolutely no more perfect pet than this. "I want..."

Before she can say anything else, the man swoops in and snatches Ceilidh up, twisting her in such a way that she kicks at Phoenix in the face. It's actually a pretty amazing maneuver on the man's end. He has to be fairly lucky to avoid getting kicked as he did so and to hold onto the girl.

The thought that this is probably divine retribution flashes through Phoenix's mind at about the same time The kid's foot makes painful contact with his face.

"Fuck!" So much for not swearing in front of kids, and he knows the guy did it on purpose. The angel staggers back a step, and grabs his nose to check for blood.

Phoenix gives the guy a look so filthy that it would make any demon proud. He doesn't realise he's made an entire family hate his guts, but he's well aware this one is less than happy.

"Nicely done." He could be talking about recapturing the feral child, but they both know what he really means.

Ceilidh shrieks at the same time, "NOOO!!! NO BATH!!!" She squirms and wiggles, but Rory manages to hold onto her nonetheless. "I WILL RAIN TERROR DOWN UPON YOU! EAT ALL YOUR CANDY! FEED YOUR KNIVES TO MAYHEM!!! GIVE YOUR SHINY THINGS TO THE CROWS!!"

It helps that Rory is a seventh son of a seventh son and thus unnaturally Lucky. And from the bland look on his face he's heard all these threats before.

And it's possibly one of the worst families to have hating your guts. Twelve siblings all gifted by the Morrigan with a natural knack for violence and having no problems with using it - though generally they try to do it only for good reasons. But they've been training most of their lives on how to fight. When people back home hear that a McCallum is coming they either run away or surrender.

Rory gives Phoenix a cheerfully evil smile. "Why thank you. It's all natural talent."

Oh, yes, yes they do.

"I'm sure." He nods, semi-graciously, after all the Lord of Naidrah and second son of the Great House of the Flame has been raised to acknowledge when he's been outmanoeuvred.

Well, his momma tried.

"You know? One of those mer-kittens would make bathtime so much more fun." He says it loud enough for the child to hear, above her threats of horrible doom.

"And I'm sure you'd be able to provide her with one," Rory said smoothly, before she could latch completely onto the idea.

Ceilidh stops squirming and looks up at Phoenix with large adoring eyes. "COULD YOU?!"

"I'm also sure he'd love to meet Mayhem, since he's a big fan of cute little kittens."

Because sending small adorable kittens that can eat everything is the perfect revenge. Especially when accompanied by a small child who will feed him anything she can.

Even if it doesn't belong to her.

"It's totally up to your family." Phoenix says in response the the pleading girl. "Their decision...and you'd have to promise to endure bathtime. 'Course, I'd need to get off this ship first."

It's all true, he wouldn't give an animal to a kid without parental approval, but he's not so sure why the guy is so happy to introduce him to their current kitten. What did the kid say again? Teleporting kitten. That was it.

You don't get as well-travelled as the angel without knowing there are far, far worse things than teleporting kittens around. "Sure. Whatever." He'll probably encounter the child again, but doesn't figure the guy is bestie material.

"Of course. But it's mean to offer things that you can't get easily."

Ceilidh pouted at this and sagged like a cat in Rory's arms.

Though at the mention of Mayhem she brightened. "Oh yes! He's love Mayhem! Everyone does!"

"I'm sure he will too, up until the point Mayhem eats his shoes." Rory gave Phoenix a smirk and salute with his free hand before walking off, girl under his arm.

Ceilidh is definitely going to run into Phoenix again.

With Mayhem.

And Rory doubts there's anything the man could do to stop the kitten from eating his things.

"Sure thing," she replies, glancing around with no small amount of trepidation. "Meet you back behind this house in an hour?"

That should give her enough time to wander the town and see what she can find out from random people. Hopefully, it won't be enough time for him to get caught, but if it is, she'll just have to rescue him. Isn't that how these things work?

"Ow." Her back is on fire, every inch of skin shrieking as she struggles to roll onto her side. Bones was going to kill her, but only if Spock didn't reach her first.

Or Uhuro.

Oh fuck. Well, she's dead. It's official. As alive as she's feeling right now in about four minutes someone will find her and she'll be dead.

Why did it always have to be slavers? You'd think they'd learn to stay away from Federation space.

She was just lucky Pasha had gotten the right coordinates or she would have-

Would have...

Jane blinks against the low lights and scowls.

This was not her ship.
embracing_technicality: (time shift)

[personal profile] embracing_technicality 2015-10-03 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Her last memory was of Jane attempting to take over the slaver ship, after they'd beamed aboard. She was giving the Captain cover fire when suddenly, she felt the familiar sensation of her body transforming into individual particles.

Spock sits up, surprised that she was laying down to begin with. The ship looked familiar. The designs were in line with Starfleet protocol, but they looked to be ... could it be? ... a different time.

"Captain. What exactly did you push on the control board?"
punch_it: (Screw This)

[personal profile] punch_it 2015-10-03 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing!" Jane pauses to allow the familiar sense of 'oh thank fuck i'm not alone' to roll over her, to think 'jesus christ, if we're both here, how's anyone going to find us?', to accept 'yeah, Spock's gonna kill me'. She forces a grin even as she let's her eyes fall shut again. "I flipped a switch."

"A switch."

There is so much judgement happening right now Jane. So much.

But by now, Spock is on her feet. She'd lend a hand to help Jane get up, except, well, Vulcans don't do that. Instead, she's headed straight to the doors to investigate whether or not they're trapped here.
punch_it: (pic#6370354)

[personal profile] punch_it 2015-10-04 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Rude.

Jane slowly levers herself upright, ignoring the phaser burns on her back as she makes her way slowly across the room to Spock's side.

"A switch." That ship did not have the technology on it to do this kind of bullshit, Spock and you know it. It was a cargo transport for fucks sake.

"By all means, you press the buttons this time."
embracing_technicality: (there's no BS)

[personal profile] embracing_technicality 2015-10-04 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
An eyebrow goes up as she hears Jane finally come up behind her. Spock will concede that it was highly unlikely, but not impossible.

There's an absurd number of buttons on this console. Seeing as there were no clues as to which one to push, Spock selected one at random and without hesitation, pushed down.

The doors swooshed open.
punch_it: (For real though?)

[personal profile] punch_it 2015-10-04 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
...

"I hate you so much."

Jane was not going to be the first one through those doors, no thank you. Spock, you can do the honors. She's been in more than enough trouble for one afternoon.

Wrong gender of Bones, but oh well?

[personal profile] dammitkirk 2015-10-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Not his Enterprise, but still, injured is injured. Luckily for her, she's not going to die, at least while he had anything to say about it.

"What did you get yourself into, now, ma'am?" She was wearing command gold, well, if it wasn't torn to near shreds. And she will recognize the Georgia accent, though it's from a more male voice than the one she's used to. As for Bones, he was merely assuming she was associated with another ship in Starfleet, and not the female version of his own captain.

Jane can see the smugness on Spock's face as she gladly walks past out the door.

That's when the First Officer seemingly realizes that she owns a mobile communicator. Flipping it open as she walks down the hall, Spock hears the familiar beep, beep of the outgoing connection, but a connection never hits.

"That's odd." She stops and turns around to Jane, holding out her communicator with an expression like 'Do you have yours?'

Jane pulls her's from her back pocket, only a little pleased it didn't get crushed or blown apart. Poor Scotty. Jane tries not to think how many of those she's gone through since starting their five year mission, but the answer is a lot.

A lot.

And Scotty is the one who always gets to fix them. But only because Jane is usually too busy being unconscious at the time. (Or embarrassed that she sat on it that one time, but they never talk about that.)

"If this is a Federation ship, these would connect to their system. Right?"

So far this ship has all the shiny cleanliness of one.
