TEST DRIVE #16 - Turbolifts and Ten Forward

Option 001. Trapped in a Turbolift: This space travel thing is new to you, and you're starting to think the ship is purposely out to get you. A turbolift is just a grandiose name for an elevator, which should be the safest way to travel after all! But someone out there is out to get you, you're sure of it. Because the next thing you know, the lights flicker and the lift grinds to a stop. You're trapped, with whomever was unlucky enough to be in the lift with you.

It could be hours before you're rescued. These turbolifts span the entire massive ship, and don't just travel straight up and down. No, they can travel horizontally, vertically, sometimes even diagonally. You could be stuck between any deck now. There is a small access panel on one of the smooth walls, but how good are you with getting these things to work? Let's not forget that sudden stop tossed everyone around a little, and people could be hurt. Time to put your emergency thinking cap on, and make friends with the people beside you fast. You could be the only way back to freedom.

Conversely, you could slide that pack of cards out of your pocket and start a rousing game of gin rummy. Really it's up to you.

Option 002. Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, minding your own business, and now you're on a spaceship in the middle of a crowded room! It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens, and some of the food is looking rather strange too.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward. A long bar with barstools and a bartender span one side of the room, with a bank of strange computers on that same wall. It looks like people are ordering food and drinks from them. Tables are sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but floor to ceiling windows with a view out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

Not the first time Shadow has been stuck in a turbolift, for certain. Her tail twitches, and her ears lay flat to her skull while she picks herself up off the ground. Teeth bared and claws bared for a moment as she holds onto the wall, the Eeiauoan curses colourfully.

(Ten Forward, taking during the GCPD shooting in "Knock,Knock")

A pop could be heard and a very banged up and disheveled young woman was left it its wake. The last thing Kristen Kringle could remember was someone (maybe Nygma?) slamming her out of the path of flying bullets. "The squad room was being shot up!" she remembered. But beyond a ton of bruises she was in one piece (at least she thinks) as Kristen took a look around. "Ok, this is Nygma levels of freaky since I'm not in the squad room anymore." but she had tried to get off the floor thanks to her skirt getting tangled in a bank of chairs.

'Clearly I have been a bad influence on the Prophets' was the thought that drfted through Ben's head as it seemed they had given him coporeal form once more. He'd spent... an undetermined amonunt of time among the Prophets. Such was the disadvantage of being among a non-linear species. However they had decided he needed some time to process some of what they'd been trying to teach him, and thus he would appear just inside the doors of what looked like a lounge.

'Well it's not Vic's...' But then again what was? That felt like the 1950s, this was definitely 24th century tech. Hell, it made him think of what he'd heard from Worf of Ten Forward. Deciding to see what he was dealing with he made his way to the bar, to order himself a raktajino and see what he could see.

Naoto Shirogane - Persona 4

[personal profile] shiroganeheir 2015-11-21 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Going from a Japanese high school to a bar in a very futuristic setting in space is a bit of a startling contrast.

Naoto Shirogane stands in the middle of the bar, eyes almost sparkling as she stares out of the window into space, a huge grin on her face. She's trying to ignore the fact that she's standing there in her school uniform; black pants and a black jacket buttoned over a white shirt, looking to almost any comers like a young teenage boy.

Perhaps one of these moments, she'll actually pull herself away and attempt to understand where she is.

[Canon point is just after Ben Urich's funeral.]

The soft pop of a new arrival punctured the quiet of Ten Forward. He was a slim man dressed in a black wool coat with a gray scarf around his neck. He is also wearing dark red glasses and clutching a cane. He takes a step and then shakes his head as if he's afraid he'll fall if he finishes the though his foot started.

His head turns from left to right and he makes no effort to remove his glasses or move. "Hello is anyone there," he asks hearing a heart beat coming closer to his position.

[personal profile] mutationsprice 2015-11-21 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[For info about this AU see this post]

[Option 1]

The style of the elevator isn't entirely new to him, however the experience of being stranded in it somewhat is. He's grateful he's not trapped in the dark, but the confined space is discomforting as is the fact he has no idea just how long he's going to be stuck here.

"Lovely. I would have brought my deck of cards if I'd realized I'd end up with time to kill."

[Option 2]

Royce Gold wasn't exactly certain what had happened still, nor why it had come about, but he'd decided that perhaps if he visited the bar and had a couple drinks and listened to the talk around him. Perhaps he'd get lucky and it'd eventually make sense. Or not. Either way, a drink would at least make it easier to deal with. Perhaps he could bribe someone with drinks, or the promise of gold, into giving him answers that actually answered more questions than they created.

One could wish.

"Johnnie Walker, neat." He told the tender as he seated himself on a stool before the bar. Hopefully they had that in stock, if not, well, he'd settle for a different whisky or even a beer if need be.

Henry Mills | Once Upon a Time CR AU | Ten Forward

[personal profile] disneydescendant 2015-11-21 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Henry was bored of being in the catacombs. He was dirty and tired and hungry. With his Keyblade raised, he cautiously walked along a passage he didn't think he'd used yet. But one false move had him slipping down a hole and moments later he was shielding his eyes from the sunlight. At least he'd gotten out of there.

But as he looked up, he realised he wasn't out of the catacombs into Ruby City. This was...somewhere else. The place was light and he quickly sheathed his Keyblade, not wanting to give away that secret when they were so many people in the room. Looking around, he didn't see anyone he recognised but he did see the large window with the stars and then stared into it. Where the hell was he? And why?
isworthy: (7)

Thomas Lasky : Halo (Forward Unto Dawn Canonpoint)

[personal profile] isworthy 2015-11-21 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Option 1

It's a good thing Tom's had a chance to scrub down and be in something other than his training gear when the turbolift grinds to a stop. Mostly because he's rather certain the person with him wouldn't want a teenager in what would be military equipment sharing an enclosed space with them and he isn't one to want people to be nervous around him or get the wrong idea or something like that at least, and this being stuck thing would be rather worse than it already was. That being said he looks over at his companion and then up at the ceiling of the turbolift, then back down the doors as if it will fix everything.

"Are you any good with these things?" Where was Sully when he needed him? At least he had a good head with technology and such, even if things weren't the same as back home. He was just good at getting potshots taken at him with stun rounds. So the question is genuine, if a little sarcastic.

Option 2

There were just some things that a kid from a military academy just couldn't really get used to, especially when one considered aliens weren't a thing back home. One was the fact that this place was not only full of humans but of people of other species too, and it made him a little nervous if only because it was different. Another thing was the sheer size of the ship, yes he had seen military ships in the past but this one? This one was huge, and rather plush in comparison to those, let alone Corbulo. It was really a lot to take in, but he was taking in stride as best he could.

This meant wandering into the lounge area as casually as could be in only part of his training fatigues, the jacket left back in his room. He tried to keep a low profile as he watched people order food and drinks and made his way over to do the same. He gets his food (chocolate muffins) and before he's even out of line has most of one already stuffed in his mouth as he goes to find a seat. Right here is the best and brightest of the UNSC, youngest son of a great colonel and brother of a Helljumper. The pride and joy of Corbulo in his t-shirt with CAMS on the back with chipmunk cheeks. He's rather certain his mother would have a fit and he doesn't care.

"Bloody hell." Neil doesn't bother prying open the access panel- the electronics in this place are so far beyond him they might as well be magic- but he does smash his fist against it in the hope that it does... something.

Predictably, it doesn't. It doesn't even leave a satisfying dent.

"Ohmigod."

It sounds like it came from the plant in the corner. The plant is now moving.

"Ohmigod. Ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod."

If anyone is looking closely, they'll see two wide eyes staring out from the foliage, but they're darting around so quickly it's hard to keep track of them. You'd have to be close to hear the next words out of his mouth, spoken in a frantic whisper.

"Ladies and gentleman, I-I-I'm not sure how to explain what my eyes are seeing. It's a room. A big room with tables and chairs and I think it's a restaurant there's food and people, and they're drinking and-- ohmigod I think they see me. Ohmigod, ohmigod. Ladies and gentleman, I don't know where I am. If anybody sees my entourage, tell them to send he-h-help."

Adele DeWitt | Dollhouse | Ten Forward

[personal profile] i_rule_this_house 2015-11-21 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's plain despite her immaculate attire and the rather expensive clutch that matches her rather expensive shoes that Adele DeWitt has seen better days. She is seated at the bar with a glass of bourbon under her nose. It is not her first, neither is it likely to be her last. Her head is just barely propped on her hand, and her rather stylish bob haircut is mussed and hanging in her eyes.

The frown is classic DeWitt, and should not be taken as an indication of her mood; however, it does rather complete the overall look, doesn't it?

It is a rather crucial moment in her house to find herself whisked off to space. The threat of a coup both in and outside the walls of the Dollhouse presses in on her, and taken from her office there isn't a damn thing she could do about it. Topher is weak; he'll roll over for the first management to scratch behind his ears. Echo ... well, she's destined for the Attic, isn't she?

Her house is encamped by wolves at every corner while she is here, languishing in a bar, cross enough to use her own fists should the man responsible for her abduction show his face.

[personal profile] agentboring 2015-11-22 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
The past couple of years have exposed Grant to quite a few unexpected things. Ever since the attack on New York things had gone from strange to worse. He thought he'd - if not seen it all - gotten used to it enough that it wouldn't throw him.

Showing up on the Enterprise when he'd been expecting to just go and check on some of his cutting off the fat of Hydra operations...

Well

That threw him.

Briefly.

He recovered quickly and immediately started looking around the room. A bar.

Aliens.

He was in space.

"Well."

Because what else could you say to that?

Still, things must be done... turning to someone he said, charming smile on. Good old Agent Ward of Shield. Bland. Dull. "Excuse me... I don't suppose you could tell me what just happened?"

Harry strolled around the room, chuckling to himself. He kept his mind as carefully schooled as he could, trying to remember every damn thing he could from those books, that show, and what Ebenezer had told him.

Because... oh man. Really?

He stared around him in wonder, the stars, the aliens, and the familiar sights dancing in his eyes. Of all the voyages into other universes he had experienced, this one beat them all for sheer cool-factor! He didn't even mind that he was trapped here!

Heck! This might well be the vacation he desperately needed!

Thor was sitting at the window, smiling, watching the room and the stars, and enjoying himself. Far from home, far from the Avengers and Asgard and Loki, Thor was finding himself happy. He had been happy with Jane, and that was the only downside, but he was adaptive, and he was doing just fine, just being himself, and ignoring the sometimes ache that was within him. He'd been around for a little while, but he still felt new here.

Today, he was dressed in casual wear, a neon red top, jeans, and tennis shoes. It felt almost comfortable after his time on Midgard.

He had a giant flagon of meed, which he had made after replicating what he needed from the panels in his rooms. He drank from it and watched the stars shine on these mortals.

Clara Oswald | Doctor Who | OTA

[personal profile] braveheart_clara 2015-12-01 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[O1: Turbolift]
Clara Oswald has barely been here a day and already she is pretty sure something has it out for her. Trying to find the lounge again she took the lift, because that was how one got around this place, wasn’t it? She didn’t mind then normally, but there was the Law of Mechanical things to keep in mind, like when the lift suddenly comes to a hard stop.

The moment it stopped she realized they had been doing sideways by the way her body pitched to the left, running into the wall, her hand grasping at the smooth surface to get a hold of herself and keep herself on her feet. Oh. Okay. This was a thing.

It had gone dark, and there was just the two of them in here, so that wasn’t too bad. The part about there being two of them on the lift, not the part about it going dark.

“Oookay. This shouldn’t be a problem. Lifts break down all the time, right?” She said to her companion, sliding up the wall to stand proper again and looking to them to make sure they were all right.

[O2: Ten Forward (mild spoiler warning for ”Face the Raven”)]
When Clara appeared she stood still, arms lowering to her sides but eyes still closed a moment. There were sounds that were out of place for her last location. There were things going on around her that didn’t make sense.

One eye at first, popped open and peeked out, looking. The next eye followed, both widening as she looked around. She looked surprised, confused and a bit lost, but it didn’t have anything to do with the aliens sitting around at tables or the bar. It had more to do with her being here at all. Is this where you go when you…

No, something else must be going on. Her hand reached back to rub the back of her neck, not as if she could feel the counter before, but it couldn’t hurt to try and check, right. She turned once, looking around, and turned the other way, as if to confirm that the location was solid and very much before her.

Bouncing once on her toes she curiously looked around as she stepped forward, moving now past a couple of people and to the humongous wall of windows, the view of space. Space too didn’t surprise her. If this is where she went in the end then all the better. Still, space had a calming effect on her. “Oh my stars…” she whispered to herself, staring out a window and mentally trying to piece things together. She should ask someone. That is the first logical step. Speak up and ask someone where she was…

Being distracted by the field of space before her though helped to calm her mind. After all, this shouldn’t be happening. Maybe the Doctor managed to pull off a miracle some how. She thought to herself, smiling sadly at the thought. He said there was no way around this. Who knows what is going on here, but she was going to take about ten minutes to collect herself. To get her brain back in working order and not where it was before. There had to be a reason for this, she just had to focus and think. Be clever.

For now, one could see the small woman staring out the windows, seeming a bit dazed but calm. If no one bothers to speak to her after a while, and if nothing gets her attention, it’ll be a good ten minutes before she snaps out of it and starts to look for someone to speak to.

Olan'atar was on his way to the transporter room for his mission. He was supposed to rescue some old professor from Earth, who'd been abducted, from what he'd guessed from some overheard conversations. He didn't know the specifics, which was odd, because he was usually told about the missions. Something was off.

He was turning a corner when he found himself...

... in what looked like the main lounge of a Galaxy-class starship. Olan'atar knew because he's been there in a few holodeck simulations back at the Academy. But this time, it couldn't be a holodeck simulation. He hadn't been anywhere near holodecks on his way. Besides, it looked like a 2360s Galaxy-class starship, looking brand new at that, rather than a modern refit.

Ping!

"Say whaaaaaaaaaa...?" Okay, so maybe it's not the greatest first contact introduction. It's no "One small step," or "We come in peace," and it's definitely no "Take me to your leader," but for all the weird voodoo someone starts to expect when they've been working for the Warehouse long enough, getting zapped into another dimension still isn't something the manual prepares you for. Or maybe it is. He doesn't know, he hasn't read it all yet. But he has read it, so ha! Take that, Mrs. F.

Wait, where was he? Oh yeah. "...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?" He looks to the left. He looks to the right. He looks to the left again NO, FAKE-OUT! Back to the right. Pete is turning in circles like a dog that's just lost its favorite tennis ball. "Uh. Guys?"

They were just here a minute ago. "... Are we on the Enterprise? Guys?"

001.

"Zoinks!" Pete says, gripping the back wall. Right, so this whole starship Enterprise thing is uh-mazing. He's already pissed off two Klingons and asked Captain Picard if he can rub his head for luck, so there's his bucket list taken care of. But it's just now dawning on him that the turbolifts aren't supposed to do what they just did. "Ruh-roh."

Is he trapped in a turbolift on the Enterprise? Is this for real happening?

Don't mind the stranger in the corner who is not panicking, because he's too busy laughing with glee. We promise he isn't dangerous.

"What the hell is going on?" asks the latest victim of this little multi-universal prank, standing in the middle of the room with her skirts in her hands as if she were just preparing to cross over a threshold.

That's right. We said skirts.

Regina drops the red velvet, allowing it to billow and swish at her feet as her hands go to her hips. She takes a long, hard look around the room. This isn't right. It's not Granny's, it's certainly not Camelot, but it's clear there's some kind of magic in this place. The others are gone, leaving her to figure this out on her own, as usual. Fine. Sure, he's been stuck in elevators before. Maybe not elevators you spoke to to get moving, so maybe there's something he's not understanding about controls. Is there a hidden access panel? Can he fit through the trap that must exist in the ceiling?

Or does he just wait with the other(s), hoping technology has advanced in the past few hundred years, despite the fact that it's currently looking just as it always has.

"Goddamn it, Q! Leave me alone!" This time, he at least had the baby crib standing next to him, and he checked Anna to make sure she was still asleep, then reached over her head and checked the weapons concealed there, then pulled out a PADD, and activated it's synchronization function. A moment later he stared.

"Really? A month and a half? That's it? What the heck was that about?" Of course, for him, it had been about six months, long enough to send him back to his now reset timeline, then to a new world, where he picked up a few surprises. At least Anna could sleep through almost anything now.

There was a Snap of light, and a middle aged man, one with a small beard and a Lt Commander's uniform appeared. Of course, it was also several years out of date... future-wise, not past-wise. One hand held a multi-phasic interphase 'screwdriver', which was glowing on one tip, until the man realized he was there, and snapped it off.

"What?"

Wesley Crusher, which was his name, stumbled, and felt a shock of pain as he was cut off from most of his perceptions and powers. He groaned as he grabbed hold of a nearby chair, and stared around wildly, trying to reach out to both his abilities and a Traveler! And neither worked.

Feeling something like a mix between panic and wonder, Wesley spoke to the air. "Computer, what year and ship is this?"

"The year is 2378, the ship is the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D."

Wesley paled, then swore to himself in a dialect of Vulcan he had learned from Commander Tuvok. "Oh no. This is so not good."

He hurriedly placed the screwdriver in a pocket and made his way toward the door. He had to get out of sight, and find out what was going on, and now!

So he had taken the whole being whisked away from his visit to the Andromeda reasonably well, though it was a damn shame to be missing the party for the signatories, but this?

When his communicator remained dark, not even giving a beep, a scowl flickered over Charlemagne Bolivar's face before the smile returned. He had too much control over his body language for his bone blades to flex, but there was a new tension to him as he sized up his companions for this involuntary turbolift party. Back home, accidents were rarely accidents, and more often assassination attempts. If it weren't the same here, life might soon become unbearably dull.

"So I take it we are going to be trapped in here for however long it takes them to notice I'm missing?" he asked briskly. He would, obviously, be the one most urgently missed.
