TEST DRIVE #16 - Turbolifts and Ten Forward

Option 001. Trapped in a Turbolift: This space travel thing is new to you, and you're starting to think the ship is purposely out to get you. A turbolift is just a grandiose name for an elevator, which should be the safest way to travel after all! But someone out there is out to get you, you're sure of it. Because the next thing you know, the lights flicker and the lift grinds to a stop. You're trapped, with whomever was unlucky enough to be in the lift with you.

It could be hours before you're rescued. These turbolifts span the entire massive ship, and don't just travel straight up and down. No, they can travel horizontally, vertically, sometimes even diagonally. You could be stuck between any deck now. There is a small access panel on one of the smooth walls, but how good are you with getting these things to work? Let's not forget that sudden stop tossed everyone around a little, and people could be hurt. Time to put your emergency thinking cap on, and make friends with the people beside you fast. You could be the only way back to freedom.

Conversely, you could slide that pack of cards out of your pocket and start a rousing game of gin rummy. Really it's up to you.

Option 002. Ten Forward: You have no idea what just happened. One minute you were home, minding your own business, and now you're on a spaceship in the middle of a crowded room! It looks like a bar. There are people eating and drinking, some in uniform, others not. Some are clearly aliens, and some of the food is looking rather strange too.

You've managed to land in Ten Forward. A long bar with barstools and a bartender span one side of the room, with a bank of strange computers on that same wall. It looks like people are ordering food and drinks from them. Tables are sprinkled throughout, and the far wall is nothing but floor to ceiling windows with a view out to space. It looks like a nice lounge, low conversation making the room hum.

Better ask some questions and find out where you are, or just tap the closest person on the shoulder and try to make friends. The bar is open.

When the flash of light showing someone else had been winked onboard went away a scooter could be heard crashing into a nearby pillar. But the young woman atop the scooter hopped off the bike basically unharmed (beyond a few bruises). A splash of red hair seemed to bounce as she scanned the scene around her: it was basically not the arrival port on Ganymede. "Well for a detour this is one of the more interesting one!" she giggled as she went to working on the damaged scooter.

For the woman known as Radical Edward she only knew one thing: this was going to get interesting!

I very much forgot that the TDM was a thing...

"I'm not worried about them getting the turbolift working, miss," Shadow Stalker replied, ears still flat to her head. She refrained from snarling, though. No point in snarling when it is beyond her control to fix... whatever had happened.

She started feeling along the walls for access panel. Maybe she could get it started? It has been a while, and this is a different model ship than her own.

I'm sorry I couldn't resist >_>

He's not a member of Starfleet, and he knows they have their own way of doing things. It's not that he doesn't respect that. Lieutenant Worf and by extension Captain Picard run a tight ship, considering the challenge Q presents. He respects them, as much as a 20th Century former Army Captain can. But...

But when there are people trapped on an elevator, and he has his own unique skill set to offer to the mix, he also can't in good conscience sit back and wait. Starfleet officer or not.

A loud thud comes from the top of the turbolift, and it's followed soon after by a man's voice. "Everyone, watch your heads!"

About 4 seconds later, the emergency hatch door comes crashing to the floor. About 2 seconds after that, a tall blond in combat-issue boots lands on top of it.

"Is everyone all right?" he asks, concern furrowing his brow. He has his hands held out to show he isn't holding a weapon and he's not there to cause them harm. But that's when he sees Genesis, and he suddenly stands a little straighter, eyes a little wider. "Genny?"

"Oi, Ginger!" Amy yells, ducking away and lifting her hands.

She knows that look. Enough people have tried going after her and the Doctor for her to recognize it. Besides, she knows a thing or two about gingers.

"You're on a ship in space, and I don't 'ave anything to hurt you," she says, copper locks falling around her shoulders.

"This is the Enterprise. Don't kill us all."
and_she_waited: (and she bursts with joy)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-18 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Are you all right?" laughs Amy.

She saw the whole thing from the bar. Don't mistake her, she is serious in asking. It's just that the crash was a laugh to watch.
rhapsoidein: (And a mate)

[personal profile] rhapsoidein 2015-12-18 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No one would answer her and the muffled voice interrupted them. She pressed herself further against the wall when the blond in combat boots dropped in and... recognized her. She was even more guarded.

"You seem to have me at a disadvantage," She said. "You know me but I don't know you."

He even used her nickname. What?
rhapsoidein: (Anytime I need to see your face)

[personal profile] rhapsoidein 2015-12-18 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ginger? She narrowed her eyes at that but she didn't do anything yet. Her bright eyes scanned the area. Ship in space?

"I was on Gaia and we haven't even gotten a rocket into space, how the hell would I be on a space ship?"

But she relaxed slightly at the last sentence. She wasn't a killer. "I don't take kindly to kidnappings and lies. My name is Genesis, not ginger."

"I'm quite fine! Scooter's damaged but nothing that can't be fixed." Ed's smile spoke volumes. "Was just not expecting a mere detour though the space gates to lend me into a bar nowhere near the Ganymede arrival port." she explained.
and_she_waited: (and she doesn't believe a word)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"The space gates?" she asks, eyebrows arched.

"Ganymede?"

Okay, now she's gotten really interesting.

"You think you ended up here by chance?" Amy asks, only half-question and half-statement.

[personal profile] radical_hacker 2015-12-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Honestly not sure, I know this is not the arrival port on Ganymede so something is amiss." Ed observed. "Only rational means of explaining this is a backfired space gate but I know the gate I used was in working order."
and_she_waited: (and she is such a child of wonder)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Amy grins.

"As it 'appens, that's not the only explanation," she says, nodding to the seat next to her; "Come join me."

She spins back toward the bar and gets the attention of the bartender, ordering two more fizzy drinks.

"You didn't come here by space gate, you came here because Q wanted you here," she begins.

[personal profile] radical_hacker 2015-12-20 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ed joined Amy at the bar as she got the short version of things. The hacker's eyes almost bugged out, this was throwing even her for a pretty massive loop (since she heard the expression once and liked it). "So I get snagged by mystery person named Q, totally feels like a bounty that grandly backfired." and she would know since she's seen everything from robot clowns to bombers using stuffed bears over the last few years. "I'm Edward."
and_she_waited: (and she bursts with joy)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Never thought of it that way," she chuckles, face scrunched.

She thinks she likes this new ginger. She's definitely different.

"Edward?" she repeats, a little surprised; "that's an awfully masculine name."

She imagines she probably doesn't need to point that out to her, being the one who has to live with it.

"Amy," she says, holding out her hand; "Amy Pond, resident of Leadworth, Earth, and your current tour guide to the Enterprise."

[personal profile] radical_hacker 2015-12-20 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well its the only option making sense at the moment!" Ed giggled. "And from what people have told me its a family name of some kind." which was her go-to cover for having a male name,"So most people call me Ed but online I'm Radical Edward." she explained with a smile. She offered her own hand,"Enterprise? Feels a little more like home since space travel is nothing new. Last I knew it was 2080."
and_she_waited: (and she bursts with joy)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Radical Edward, I like that," Amy says, shaking her hand.

She definitely doesn't seem bothered by everything that's happened in the last five minutes, and that makes her special.

"Space travel isn't new to me either, but the ship is," she says, grabbing their drinks from the bartender and sliding one toward Ed.

"It's twenty-three...sixty-eight? here, last I checked," she adds, squinting at the ceiling in thought; "though where I'm from it's only twenty-eleven."

[personal profile] radical_hacker 2015-12-20 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ed caught the flying drink with a grace fitting someone used to computers. "So we're tossed ahead in time and in space? Well things can't get much stranger so I chose to see the adventure." she decided. Of course she was leaving out her life as a hacker and bounty hunter but decided that could wait while she worked on the current mystery.
and_she_waited: (and she doesn't believe a word)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's it.

"Where are you from?" Amy asks, eyes scrutinizing Ed from over the rim of her glass.

The only people she knows who'd face this situation like that are Timelords or their companions.

"An' what do you do, when you're not crashin' into walls?" she adds.
radical_hacker: (2)

[personal profile] radical_hacker 2015-12-20 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Earth but have been traveling since my teens." Ed nodded. "And usually I'm working as a hacker and bounty hunter, sometimes on my own and sometimes hooking into a crew depending on the bounty."
and_she_waited: (and she feels the world split)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, bounty hunting doesn't seem like something the Doctor would do.

Coincidence, then.

"That's an impressive CV," she says, though she pronounces it like "siv" instead of C-V.

"So your next mark was in this Ganymede place?"
radical_hacker: (8)

[personal profile] radical_hacker 2015-12-20 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sort of, had a lead on a different mark that had me heading that direction." Ed explained. "Was also going to lend another crew some tech help and when I took the gate I ended up here, crash and all."
and_she_waited: (and she starts to wonder why)

<333! So sorry for disappearing, Life does that to me sometimes. I hope you don't mind the late tag!

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so very obviously not all right, then. Not that Amy can blame her. When she first arrived, her first thought after Rory was ... well, it was the Doctor. But after that, she didn't know where to go or who to speak to.

She gives Clara a friendly smile as she steadies herself and comes over. Might as well make this as easy on her as possible.

"Space ship," she says, starting with small words; "I think you already figured out the space part. The Enterprise, is what they call it."

There's something familiar about her voice, but she can't place it just yet. All the same, her eyes narrow in thought.

"You were snatched here by an alien called Q, I'd wager," she adds.
and_she_waited: (and she is such a child of wonder)

[personal profile] and_she_waited 2015-12-20 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"You sure you're all right?" Amy asks at the reminder, brow scrunched.

It seemed like a pretty hard crash, and all.

"Well the Enterprise probably isn't anywhere near Ganymede, even were we in the right year," she says, glancing about the room.

She takes a sip of her drink. She wishes it were real alcohol, but at least it tastes all right.

"An' it's a Federation ship, so I doubt you'll find many bounty hunters on board," she adds.

"I'm sure." Ed nodded with a smile (Ok she's banged up but in one piece otherwise). She realized things had indeed gotten strange,"So looks like Ed may have to find a new line of work." but trying to stay hopeful since it was just her nature to see the good and the bright.

"Oh for crying out loud!" Booker growled it out as he looked around, appearing yet again in Ten Forward, for the third time. And for a second time in only a towel.

"Goddamn it, Q! Leave me alone!" This time, he at least had the baby crib standing next to him, and he checked Anna to make sure she was still asleep, then reached over her head and checked the weapons concealed there, then pulled out a PADD, and activated it's synchronization function. A moment later he stared.

"Really? A month and a half? That's it? What the heck was that about?" Of course, for him, it had been about six months, long enough to send him back to his now reset timeline, then to a new world, where he picked up a few surprises. At least Anna could sleep through almost anything now.

"Yeah, well now you're not," Amy answers brusquely, no preamble, no apologies.

She thinks better of it a moment later, when this Genesis character relaxes.

"'ave you ever heard of aliens?" she asks, letting her hands fall back to her sides; "some of them can transport you anywhere in space they fancy."

As far as explanations go, hers maybe wasn't the most comforting.

"And don't go lookin' at me, I didn't do it. I was brought here, same as you," she clarifies.
